CRISPY TOFU
WHAT IS CRISPY TOFU?
Crispy tofu is a simple plant-based ramen topping made with extra-firm tofu coated lightly with potato starch or cornstarch and seasoned with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Fried until crisp and lightly golden outside while remaining tender inside, it adds texture and savory flavor to ramen without a heavy batter. Made entirely with plant-based ingredients, this recipe is naturally vegan.
HOW TO USE CRISPY TOFU
Ramen Topping:
Add the crispy tofu to your ramen just before serving to enjoy it while the coating is still crisp.
Side Dish:
Serve the freshly fried tofu on its own as a simple plant-based side dish.

Ingredients
Serves 1
- About 3.5 oz (100 g) extra-firm tofu
(about 1/4 of a 14 oz / 400 g package) - 1 Tbsp potato starch or cornstarch
- 1/8 tsp garlic powder
- 1/8 tsp onion powder
- A pinch of salt
- A small amount of black or white pepper
- Oil, for frying
Instructions
1) Wrap the tofu in paper towels and place a light weight on top to press out excess moisture.
2) Cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes suitable for a ramen topping. Gently pat away any remaining surface moisture with a paper towel.
3) In a bowl or shallow container, combine the potato starch or cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black or white pepper. Mix well.
4) Add the tofu and gently toss to coat all sides with a thin, even layer. Shake off any excess coating.
5) Heat the frying oil to 350–355°F (175–180°C). Carefully add the tofu pieces without overcrowding or allowing them to stick together. Fry, turning as needed, until all sides are crisp and lightly golden.
6) Remove the tofu from the oil and drain on a rack or paper towels.
7) Add the crispy tofu to the ramen just before serving to enjoy it while it is still crisp.
