FAQ: What’s the Difference Between Kake Soba and Zaru Soba?

Kake Soba: Hot soba noodles served in a light soy-based broth, typically topped with green onions, tempura bits, and sometimes kamaboko (fish cake). This comforting dish is especially popular in colder months and offers a simple, warming way to enjoy buckwheat noodles in a traditional Japanese style.

Zaru Soba: Cold soba noodles served on a bamboo tray with a flavorful dipping sauce (tsuyu) on the side. Usually garnished with shredded nori, wasabi, and green onions, zaru soba is a classic summer dish in Japan, prized for its refreshing texture and clean buckwheat flavor.
